Committees

Owners and residents can join various committees to assist and make recommendations to the Board. It's a perfect way to not only help, but to have your ideas and suggestions taken into consideration when decisions are made by the Board. Below are the main committees. Those interested should contact the Board of Managers through our management company if they would like to join a Committee or obtain more information.

Buildings & Grounds
This is the most active and important of committees. The Commons at Cedar, having been built in 1974, has frequent maintenance requirements in many areas. Committee responsibilities include: setting direction and priority to maintenance staff, reviewing work orders, making recommendations to the Board regarding short and long term maintenance and replacement of common elements (Reserve items), meeting with contractors, review owner Architectural change requests. The committee has significant input in determining how much of the yearly budgets are allocated to repairs/maintenance, supplies and part time employee salary. Time frame: Year round.

Landscaping
The Landscaping Committee advises and assists the Board by promoting, preserving and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of common areas. Members volunteer their time to frequently review the site, meet with our landscaper or other contractors and help ensure the aesthetic appeal of our community remains high. Recommendations will be presented to the board in the Fall to be considered in the next annual budget. Time frame: Spring, Summer, Fall.

Pool
We employ no life guards or pool maintenance company and rely on the Board, our part time employee and dedicated volunteers to keep the pool a safe, fun community amenity. This committee requires a strong commitment and you’ll be involved with the pool availability scheduling, providing water test coverage when our employee is off site, evening/inclement weather closures and recommendations regarding rules, furniture and equipment. Time frame: April through September.

Social
The Social Committee’s goal is to build upon the Commons at Cedar sense of community by planning, organizing and hosting events and activities throughout the year. Events planned may vary from year to year based upon the interest and feedback from social committee members and residents. Time frame: Year round.

Tree
The committee is responsible for advising the Board on matters pertaining to common area tree maintenance. Members volunteer their time to frequently review the site, meet with an arborist and help ensure the aesthetic appeal of our community remains high and trees remain healthy. Recommendations will be presented to the board in the Fall to be considered in the next annual budget. Time frame: Spring, Summer, Fall.
